In his book The Cosmic Serpent DNA and the Origins of Knowledge, Dr. Jeremy Narby tackles the subject brilliantly with the help of Amazon medicine men, or Ayahuasqueros as they are known regionally. We call them shaman, rare individuals who appear in nearly all cultures around the globe. Individuals who bridge the divide between worlds seen and unseen. These Amazon shaman have for centuries used plants as part of their practice. They insist that plants contain encyclopedic knowledge of nature, the universe and the deepest part of ourselves. The Amazon shaman also insist that certain plants are eager to teach humans, to reveal truths and to nurture and heal us of the disconnect and disassociation we have with nature. Once you read Narby's book, it's difficult to not look at something like bee pollen and wonder if there truly is something infinitely wise contained in this highly concentrated substance that comes directly from the plant kingdom, collected by honeybees and contains pure DNA from thousands of species of medicinal, therapeutic and nutritional plants.
