At HiveMind Bee Pollen, we're always doing product demonstrations at various locations. It's our mission to Introduce this amazing food to people who have limited knowledge of bee pollen. It seems the same questions come up over and over again, so I've come up with a F.A.Q. page to help people sort out the facts...
What is Bee Pollen?
Might as well start at the beginning, as this question is usually the first question on everyone's mind upon being introduced to bee pollen...The answer is simple; Bee Pollen is the microscopic reproductive grains from flowers that bees collect along with the nectar as the sole food source for the hive. Bees combine this pollen with the nectar and their own digestive enzymes into small granules and bring it back to the hive where it is fed to the colony. The pollen contains a high concentration of essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, fatty acids and phyto-nutrients in a single source directly from nature. Bee Pollen is known to give a balanced energy as it's nutritional content is absorbed easily into the body and begins nourishing at the cellular level almost instantly.
How Do I take Bee Pollen?
Bee pollen is a tasty topping on yogurt, a great additive to your smoothy recipe or even taken straight out of the palm of your hand and washed down with some water or juice. HiveMind is fresh pee pollen, so its texture is soft and fluffy, opposed to hard and crunchy dried pollen. When taken this way, the pollen dissolves instantly and is assimilated into the body. Because of this texture, our pollen blends very well in a morning smoothie. A favorite recipe is to mix almond milk with a ripe banana in blender and a spoonful of bee pollen. The result is a smooth and sweet flavor where the pollen is complemented by the other ingredients, opposed to being over powered. This is a fantastic breakfast drink that yields a tremendous nutrition boost, including high quality protein. It's been recommended that a typical daily dose is about a tablespoon, but I find that taking small amounts of pollen throughout the day works best for me to keep my energy level up and my cravings under control.
How Bee Pollen is ingested is up to the individual's preference, but the most important thing is to continue with bee pollen daily to achieve better health, because the benefits are cumulative over time.
What are the health benefits from Bee Pollen in the daily diet ?
Anyone with allergy issues or a weakened immune system should approach bee pollen with a bit of caution. It's advisable to start with a very low dose (just a few granules) to allow the body to adjust and/or gauge any adverse reactions. It's best to go slow and work your way up to larger intake. Most people will experience a positive reaction to bee pollen. The initial response is of a slight rush of energy, mental clarity and uplifting of emotions. Bee pollen is a high concentration of nutrients in a microscopic form, easily assimilated, so the reaction can be pronounced in some individuals. Bee pollen is known to enhance athletic performance and endurance, boost the immune system, balance hormone production and promote the general health. The list of health benefits is too lengthy to list here. The response is highly individualized, and the results seem to vary among individuals. What can be expected from continued use of bee pollen is subtle improvements in health. This might be in better digestion, deeper more restful sleep, faster healing of wounds, quicker recovery from workouts, increased sexual desire and performance. This is also highly subjective to the individual.
What is the Nutritional Profile of Bee Pollen
I'm glad you asked that. Please check out this link.
There is no food on Earth like bee pollen. Honeybees are attracted to, and collect pollen and nectar from, medicinal, therapeutic, and nutritional plants while in their full bloom. As bees do their thing, they inadvertently fertilize the next generation of the species, completing the sexual reproduction of a large portion of the plant kingdom. A symbiotic relationship that has been an integral part of the Earth's biosphere through epochs of time, over 100 million years before humans appeared on Earth. Honeybees were here long before early humans arrived on the scene. It's likely that many of our earliest ideas for forming structured societies came from observing the ever-fascinating behavior of the bee colony. When honey was discovered, it's not difficult to imagine the sweet flavors of the hive must have appeared to early humans as divine nectar for the gods. When the medicinal properties of the hive were discovered, the honeybee solidified it's place in the human psyche and imagination. It's through this unique and special relationship that shaped humanity and allowed us to flourish in larger societies. Domestication of the hive allowed us to successfully feed our earliest civilizations, thus paving the way for thousands of generations to thrive and grow and live longer, more meaningful lives. It's the unbridled wisdom of nature at work; at once simple and miraculously complex. It's also a legacy that we have inherited...
With wisdom comes maturity and responsibility. As the stewards of the Earth, we have accepted a great power. Unfortunately, we are only beginning to understand the responsibility. An immature species, lacking in wisdom, modern humans seem to have become enamored with our creativity and cleverness for technology, but it seems we have foregone a close connection to the natural world and its extension into the supernatural realms...also referred to as the spiritual world. A connection that seems to have been stronger in previous eras in our history. What did the human beings in antiquity understand about the honeybee that placed this creature at the center of civilization? What esoteric understanding was shared between these symbiotic forces of nature? We know that early humans and early civilization developed a powerful interdependence with Honeybees, but Could it be that the honeybee, has intrinsically acted as a "teacher" of humans for many, many millennia....?
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Imagine the potency that exists in a single granule of bee pollen. The count of microscopic flower grains are in the millions. A spoonful of granules contain an unfathomable number of grains. within each grain is the full genetic blueprint for an entire species. In terms of DNA coding; that's a mind-boggling amount of information, and complex chemical compounds which would have been lost to the wind...if not for the diligence of the honeybee. Because of her dedicated work ethic, this nutritional treasure trove has been collected and condensed in a convenient...and delicious food source. A food so dense in raw nutritional value...to the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, it was considered more valuable than gold...and a key component to the quest for longevity and achieving immortality.
What is it about flowers that affects the human psyche on such a deep level? Someone get's sick, we give them flowers. Someone dies, we give their family flowers. We seek romance and procreation, we give flowers to our significant other...Flowers are sensually pleasing...they touch the spirit, they ease our pain, they promote love and ultimately, they inspire reproduction....because that's exactly their function on Earth...Flowers are the fundamental element of sex...let's just come to terms with what a flower represents...Life, love, and sexual reproduction. It's that simple...it's that powerfully complex. With the full power of universal laws at play, we have to wonder...what do bees know?
We share a sacred trust with honeybees. They appear in our folklore, mythology, religious texts and esoteric knowledge. Bees live in highly structured and complex societies, they're architects using sacred geometry and communicate through dance and telepathic signals. when we began domesticating bees, it's as if they accepted us in a sacred partnership. For thousands of years they have been working themselves to death for our benefit. It's time we rediscover this sacred trust and begin to re-examine the wisdom inherent in the hive...lessons which we've forgotten and many more that we have yet to learn. Consuming bee pollen in the daily diet, is a potent practice for maintaining health. Perhaps, there are additional benefits that cannot be quantified as easily. Perhaps the wisdom of nature exists within the nucleic, amino and fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and phyto- nutrients present in bee pollen. Maybe, there exists, inherent in this material, a synergy that is able to unlock our potential as humans...to function at our full capacity, physically, mentally and spiritually.
At HiveMind Bee Pollen, we're always excited when we team up with a new partner. As usual, we're beside ourselves with excitement over the news that Sigona's Farmer's Market in Palo Alto, CA is becoming our newest retail partner. With a long tradition of serving the peninsula with fine organic produce Sigona's Farmer's Market, a family-run operation, has become synonymous with high quality produce and natural foods. This team has served a large portion of the Bay Area with the finest local grown produce for three decades.
Look for HiveMind Bee Pollen in the refrigerated section at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto beginning this Thursday, July 24. HiveMind Founder, Steven Breitbach will be there to present shoppers with product samples and his trademark demo presentation. "I got my start with demos in in some of Hollywood's most high profile natural food markets, so I've had to quickly turn into an extrovert in order to win over this crowd", Said Breitbach who's preparing himself for another round of product demos throughout Silicon Valley. "California is an amazingly diverse place, with completely different kind of local culture depending on location". Promoting bee pollen in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, although challenging in it's own way, can be a completely different experience than addressing the highly educated and highly driven Stanford crowd that acts as the engine of innovation and entrepreneurship to the fast-paced world of Silicon Valley.
Although near-opposite culturally, the basic message of bee pollen has a similar resonance within each location. People who thrive whether it be in the nation's most advanced research facilities within a prestigious institution of higher learning or within the dog-eat-dog, ultra-competitive / ultra-glamorous world of the entertainment industry; people basically want the same thing... These are highly driven achievers, in their respective areas, looking for an edge to stay on top of their game. Bee pollen is the perfect food for everyone, but it's especially rewarding to creative minded ambitious personalities. Nourishing both the body and brain, bee pollen delivers a wide range of nutrients in balanced proportion, enabling increased endurance levels in both physical and mental activity...so we can be at our best, longer, recover faster and maintain connection to the creative process. Bee pollen is the ideal food for any culture, any situation, but these extreme examples of California's economic twin engines...Silicon valley and Hollywood provide an ideal environment for this amazing product of California's food growers and bee keepers to contribute to the innovative spirit and creative energy that thrives here. So, were confident that our product will be well received at Sigona's Farmer's Market, just steps away from the Stanford campus.
On a side note, Segona's will also carry HiveMind Royal Jelly in the 1.5 fl. oz glass jar.
Timing is everything. On a recent sales trip to the San Francisco Bay Area, we were able to work out a deal with the buyers at Mollie Stone's Markets, a popular grocery store chain based in Marin. Molly Stone's nine locations stretch along the peninsula from Sausalito to Palo Alto, forming the backbone of our Bay Area expansion. 'We are pleased and excited that our product is being offered in these popular stores for a couple of reasons. Mainly, Molly Stone's has a long tradition of serving the San Francisco area as a top quality, neighborhood grocer and it's a great honor to be part of that tradition, said Steven Breitbach, HiveMind Founder. We're also very excited because this represents a new territory, not only for our company, but for bee Pollen in general... as a widely accepted food.
Traditionally, retail stores offering bee pollen have been restricted to the health food segment. Very seldom would you find a product such as bee pollen in a mainstream grocery store. It has always been our mission to bring bee products such as pollen and royal jelly into the mainstream. With our new relationship with Mollie Stone's were beginning to see this happen...and that's very exciting!" Breitbach added.
Look for HiveMind Bee Pollen to hit all stores by the end of July.
Take a drive around Los Angeles these days and you'll be hard pressed to avoid a Cold Pressed Juicery...They are popping up everywhere. The movement has arrived. Fresh Juice concoctions made with a variety of organic fruits, greens, roots and super foods are ubiquitous. From Brentwood to Los Feliz; From Northridge to Long Beach and everywhere in between Los Angelenos can't seem to get enough...and the movement shows no sign of losing momentum anytime soon. For HiveMind founder, Steven Breitbach this current juice craze is the manifestation of a vision, a vision he set in motion way back in 1995, when he opened Bongo Juice Co., a fresh juice bottling and distribution facility working out of a retail juice bar....in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.
Back in those days, nobody had heard of a fresh pressed juice bar, with the exception of a few granola holdovers from the 1970s. The raw foods movement existed in a small cluster of forward thinking visionaries. We were bottling fresh squeezed orange juice and delivering it to office buildings downtown. "It was a successful operation, well received, but the long Chicago winters seemed to dampen business for the retail end of the business", Breitbach recalls. We had the right idea, It just wasn't the right time, nor the right place.
The right place is Los Angeles. The right time is NOW for the Fresh Juice movement, which has grown exponentially in the past two years. Steven Breitbach is thrilled to witness this explosion of juceries, because not only does it validate his vision, he's positioned HiveMind to participate in the industry as a major supplier of bee products. It's been a long time coming, but we're happy to be in this position, Products such as Bee Pollen, Blue Green Algae and other superfoods are complementary to fresh juice, so this gives us an in, to participate within the movement as an influential bit player. HiveMind Bee Pollen, fresh from their deal with Virgin Raw's Bee Panacea is currently in talks with at least three major players in the ever expanding field of fresh juice start ups who are entering their second and third year of business with aggressive expansion plans. We're not at liberty to discuss exactly which companies we're engaging with, but all signs are looking good that our pollen will be the pollen of choice, even as the industry matures and the playing field narrows to survival of fittest. For now, it's akin to the wild west gold rush, as these burgeoning juicers jocky for market position. For Breitbach, this era of rapid expansion by brass young entrepreneurs is reminiscent of early days of the DOTCOM frenzy in San Francisco in 1999-2000. . I found myself in the middle of that scene, having just arrived in California after closing down the juice business in Chicago. With his technical skills in video editing and graphic design, Breitbach was able to jump into the DotCom fray prior to the tech stock collapse in 2000. "I saw a lot and learned a lot during those years, so I recognize a similar trend vibe happening here in L.A. It's a wave that's been swelling up for some time and we've been busy positioning ourselves to ride it."

Founded by sisters Monika and Gosia Kozdrowiecka, Virgin Raw Bee Panacea is currently gaining the attention of Hollywood publicity mavens, such as Victoria Beckham, who seems to be on a roll promoting the stuff. This prodct has also caught the attention of world class surfer, Laird Hamilton who mentioned it in the latest issue of Men's Journal. A meticulous blend of organic super foods and honeybee themed products is the Queen Bee of the forming colony of entrepreneur producers, such as Bloom Honey, HoneyColony.com and yours truly, HiveMind Bee Pollen. Although, we here at HiveMind consider ourselves the scrappy runt of the litter, founder and self-proclaimed Bee Pollen Evangelist, Steven Breitbach's relentless enthusiasm for sharing the product knowledge with anyone who will listen has begun to pay off.
Well, at least in the sense that the Kozdrowiecka sisters have invited Steven and HiveMind into the family. As of this week, the three L.A. based bee entrepreneurs had a meeting of the minds, (so the speak) and the results of this meeting at Virgin Raw's Beverly Hills penthouse headquarters is good news for the natural foods movement and anyone who loves product of the hive. Just as in nature, synergy tends to draw together people with similar ideas and intentions, and the combination of Bee Panacea and HiveMind Bee Pollen is a match that has been anticipated for some time, among those in the know.
"We are very particular about the ingredients that goes into our product, we only include the best of the best", says Gosia. HiveMind Bee Pollen has a great reputation as the highest quality pollen available and Steve (Breitbach) has a reputation for honesty and integrity, so it's a good fit for us." At HiveMind Bee Pollen, we agree with Goshia. We're equally pleased to be working with these sisters, who have brought one of the most powerful blends of superfoods to the market, and have done so with clarity of purpose, style and integrity that it's inspiring. Almost from day one of demonstrating our bee pollen at Erewhon in West Hollywood, have people been saying that some form of collaboration should materialize among these entrepreneurs. We're very pleased to announce that our product will be included in the Bee Panecea recipe going forward. We look forward to this relationship with great hopes for expansion and growth in the near future.
